Culture, its something we’re immersed in these days. It seems to permeate into our lives weather we like it or not, but have you ever actually stopped to think what culture is exactly? Are you a part of it, is it a part of you? To a biologist, a culture is an artificially created environment to allow for microorganisms to propagate, it effects and results are predetermined. This it seems, isn’t too far removed from what modern human culture has actually become.
If culture is anything, its a representation of everybody’s unique individual creative potential…
What McKeanna so eloquently proposes here is just that, modern culture is something predetermined and artificial. A culture created within strict guidelines by a privileged few to then be willingly(sometimes unwillingly) consumed by the masses. A sterile and homogenised creation that provides no real sustenance or creative value, an artistically bankrupt entity that, “is not your friend”.
If culture is anything, its a representation of everybody’s unique individual creative potential and not just a throwaway or disposable thing. Instead of mindlessly consuming this supposed cult-ure, lets instead realise that inner creative potential! Its time to create new shapes, new sounds and stories! Time that we all put those artistic pedals to the metal!
