The Young and the Restless brought the drama the week of December 30-January 3. Some moments were hits, some were misses, and Soap Talks has the rundown on what worked and what didn’t in Genoa City this past week.
Best of Y&R
It was unusual to see Ian discovered so quickly when we were sure he was going to end up kidnapping Tessa. However, the confrontation outside between Ian, Nick, and Nick’s girls was perfect. Nick was typical Nick, a middle-aged man who can be hapless, but his immediate defense of his girls and Sharon made us believe we would get Shick again.
Mariah’s reaction to Ian was even more powerful as you could see her trauma and fear from being raised by this madman. Her flashback to a decade ago made it all the more real and we can’t wait for a climactic Ian and Mariah confrontation.
Danny’s return to GC made the last year of Danny and Christine nostalgia even more special. We remembered where they were a year ago when he couldn’t seem to resist Phyllis and are tickled pink to see where they are now after all these years.
Worst of Y&R
Phyllis remained a raging and ranting piece of work, unable to let go of a hatred for Sharon that is completely unjustified. We look forward to her moving on and getting more involved with Billy and Sally’s lives once this story is over.
Where’s Sharon? Yes, it took all week for Nick and his girls to wonder where the heck Sharon was on New Year’s Eve. The audience knows that Jordan kidnapped her but the fact that nobody cared to think about Sharon until after midnight was bizarre — especially after all she has been through lately.
There’s something just weird about Kyle and Claire. There is something even more disturbing about Kyle taking the virginity of another young woman while he is on a break from another round with Summer. Maybe Lola wants to talk to Claire about the concept of red flags.
Don’t forget to watch new episodes of The Young and the Restless each weekday on CBS and weeknight on Paramount +.
